Public Admission Entry Requirements

Specific supervision and height requirements are in place for admission to City of Winnipeg pools. Minimum height requirements are site specific and are measured at the top of the shoulder.

The onsite supervisor has the right to allow or prevent access to any part of the pool or the pool in its entirety should there be any safety concerns regarding the patron’s use of the facility.

Patrons are encouraged to bring their own lifejackets/PFDs.

Other than PFDs no other pool equipment will be provided.

Supervision Requirements

Children under the age of 7 will not be allowed entry into the pool unless accompanied by a parent/guardian/caregiver at a ratio of 1 (parent/guardian/caregiver) to 4 (children).

Children under the age of 7

Who cannot swim:

  • Must be accompanied in the water by a parent/guardian/caregiver at a ratio of 1 (parent/guardian/caregiver) to 4 (children)
  • Parent/guardian/caregiver must be within arm’s reach of the children
  • Must wear a lifejacket/PFD (personal flotation device)
  • Are restricted to the shallow end

Who can swim:

  • Must be accompanied in the water by a parent/guardian/caregiver at a ratio of 1 (parent/guardian/caregiver) to 4 (children)
  • Parent/guardian/caregiver must be within arm’s reach of the children
  • Upon demonstration of swimming ability may enter the pool without a lifejacket/PFD (personal flotation device)

Children 7 years and older

Who do not meet the height requirement & cannot swim:

  • Must be accompanied in the water by a parent/guardian/caregiver at a ratio of 1 (parent/guardian/caregiver) to 4 (children)
  • Parent/guardian/caregiver must be within arm’s reach of the children
  • Must wear a lifejacket/PFD (personal flotation device)
  • Are restricted to the shallow end

Who do not meet the height requirement & can swim:

  • Must be accompanied in the water by a parent/guardian/caregiver at a ratio of 1 (parent/guardian/caregiver) to 4 (children)
  • Upon demonstration of swimming ability may enter the pool without a lifejacket/PFD (personal flotation device)

Who meet the height requirement & cannot swim:

  • Are restricted to the shallow end.
  • A lifejacket/PFD (personal flotation device) is optional.

Who meet the height requirement & can swim:

  • Are able to swim independently in the shallow end
  • Upon demonstration of swimming ability may enter deeper water without a lifejacket/PFD (personal flotation device)

School and Group Admissions

A group of 9 or more people, or any organized program or event attending an aquatic facility should book in advance by calling 311.

When using City of Winnipeg aquatic facilities, groups are required to adhere to all admission requirements.

Schools and groups are required to:

Prior to arrival

Identify students/participants who do not meet the height requirement and cannot swim and be prepared to adhere to these rules:

  • Students/participants must be accompanied in the water by an adult at a ratio of 1 adult to 4 children
  • Adult must be within arm's reach of the children
  • Students/participants must wear a lifejacket/PFD (personal flotation device)
  • Students/participants are restricted to the shallow end

Identify students/participants who do not meet the height requirement and can swim and be prepared to adhere to these rules:

  • Students/participants must be accompanied in the water by an adult at a ratio of 1 adult to 4 children
  • Upon demonstration of swimming ability, students/participants may enter the pool without a lifejacket/PFD (personal flotation device)
    • A general rule of thumb is completion of Level 5 of the Red Cross Swim Kids Program or Swimmer 4 of the Lifesaving Society Swim for Life Program

Identify students/participants who meet the height requirement and cannot swim and be prepared to adhere to these rules:

  • Students/participants are restricted to the shallow end
  • A lifejacket/PFD (personal flotation device) is optional

Upon arrival at the pool, contact the onsite supervisor

  • The onsite supervisor will review the pool rules
  • Identify to the onsite supervisor those students/participants who require a lifejacket/PFD (personal flotation device)
  • Identify to the onsite supervisor those students/participants who wish to access the deep water. The onsite supervisor will then have the swimmers perform a short swim evaluation to confirm their ability.

Please note:

  • Access for school groups is only available Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
  • There are no group booking fees, but regular admission fees apply.
  • Depending on the details of the booking, other options such as a swim lane rental may be recommended instead of a group booking.
