Water Rescue
The Fire Department Water Rescue Program deals with all surface rescue needs within the City of Winnipeg.
This involves all:
- Rivers and streams
- Retention ponds and swimming pools (within the city boundaries)
All stations have limited water rescue capabilities but 5 stations have significant capabilities using a variety of specialized equipment and training such as:
- Zodiac inflatable boats with outboard engines
- 2 jet boats including a Fire Hawk boat which also provides a firefighting platform on the river front to facilitate a rapid and safe fire and rescue response for the City.
The Water Rescue program operates 24 x 7 - 365 days a year and has been in existence for over 20 years and has responded when needed to all water emergencies for citizens and vessels and on occasion to animals requiring assistance.
