Public washrooms

Public washrooms are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days of the year in the Downtown area to provide places to go for people experiencing homelessness. Three washrooms are available throughout the Downtown area, and are moved periodically to meet community demand. In addition, a permanent public washroom is available near 715 Main St.

Places to Go – Public Restroom Strategy

Out of the need for more public washrooms available Downtown, the Places to Go – Public Restroom Strategy was developed to identify gaps and high-needs areas for public washrooms for individuals experiencing homelessness. Locations for the temporary public washrooms were determined in consultation with End Homelessness Winnipeg, and other community partners.

This strategy helps provide life necessities and dignity for all residents in the Downtown area who do not have personal access to a washroom.

Funding for the Places to Go - Public Restroom Strategy is through the Canadian Medical Association Foundation’s donation to the Community Response Fund for Vulnerable Populations for $670,000. Of this total, $50,000 went towards temporary public washrooms and the remaining $620,000 went towards permanent public washrooms.
