Safety on Rivers & Waterways
Members of the Winnipeg Police Service River Patrol enforce federal, and provincial statutes, and City of Winnipeg by-laws within Winnipeg.
Current river conditions:
All boat launches are closed until Spring.
With temperatures at or below freezing all rivers, streams, retention ponds and ditches should be avoided until fully frozen and marked trails have been put in place. At all times of the year, areas with “Danger - Thin Ice” posted signage need to be avoided.
As always: Be water smart and stay safe.
- Red River - Daytime 70 kph - Night 50 kph
- Assiniboine River - Daytime 37 kph - Night 10 kph
- Boat Launches and docks on the Red River are designated 9 kph.
