Assault With a Weapon – Arrest: C21-259023

On November 4, 2021, at approximately 3:30 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service arrested a male suspect at Fort Street and Graham Avenue who had assaulted and threatened several people at knifepoint who were waiting at a nearby bus stop.

Information provided by the victims indicated the suspect, who was unknown to any of the victims, confronted an adult male waiting for a bus and began making racial insults towards him. The victim attempted to walk away when he was assaulted and verbally threatened.

A Winnipeg transit bus driver wearing a recognizable uniform was at the stop waiting to take over a bus that was anticipated to arrive. He witnessed the incident and attempted to defuse the situation, at which time the suspect pulled out a knife, threatened him and subsequently punched the driver in the face.

A third adult male waiting at the stop tried to intervene and was also threatened at knifepoint. All three victims retreated to safety and contacted the police. Nobody required medical attention.

A 43-year-old male of Winnipeg is facing assault, weapon and threats-related charges. He was released on an Undertaking (per the Criminal Code).

Shooting – Arrest: C21-259137

On November 4, 2021, at approximately 5:45 p.m., General Patrol officers in the Central District responded to the report of shots fired within an apartment in the 300 block of Alexander Avenue.

Upon arrival, officers confirmed a round had penetrated a tenant’s suite within the apartment. Neither of the adult or child occupants within the suite was physically injured. 

Police determined the shot came from a neighbouring suite. They searched the building and determined there were no imminent threats as the suspect in the shooting had fled.

A hospital later contacted police regarding an adult male who had arrived with a gunshot injury, and the Major Crimes Unit took over the investigation.

A subsequent search warrant was executed, and a firearm was located and seized. Investigators believed the accused had accidentally discharged a firearm, shooting himself and causing a round to fire into the next suite.

A 19-year-old male of Winnipeg was taken into custody and is facing the following charges:

- Possession of a Firearm, Restricted/ Prohibited Weapon Contrary to Order
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Careless Use of Firearm or Restricted Weapon Contrary to Regs
- Possession of a Weapon
- Fail to Comply with a Probation Order.

The accused remains in hospital for treatment regarding an accidental gunshot wound.

Stabbing – Investigation: C21-259546

On November 5, 2021, at approximately 3:30 a.m., emergency personnel services responded to a residence in the 600 block of Agnes Street for a report of an assault.

Upon arrival, officers located two individuals who had been stabbed – a male in his 40’s and a male in his 50’s. Both were transported to hospital in stable condition.

No arrests have been made at this time.

This investigation is continuing by members of the Major Crimes Unit.

Drug Offence – Arrest: C21-259279

On November 4, 2021, members of the Guns & Gangs Unit began investigating an individual they believed was trafficking methamphetamine.

At approximately 7:55 p.m., officers conducted a traffic stop of a taxi cab in the area of Logan Avenue and Isabel Street, at which time the suspect was taken into custody.

A search of the suspect and the cab resulted in the seizure of a number of items, including 916.4 grams of methamphetamine (with an estimated street value of $15,400) and $2,315 in money.

Darnel Scott Isaac, a 35-year-old male of Winnipeg, has been charged with:

- Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Methamphetamine
- Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000
- Fail to Comply with Condition of Undertaking

He was detained in custody.

Weapons Incident – Arrest: C21-259089

On November 4, 2021, at 4:57 p.m., Central District General Patrol members responded to the first 100 block of McPhillips Street for a report of a male that had been in the area with a weapon described as a large knife taped to a baseball bat.

Officers subsequently located the male at McPhillips Street and Bannatyne Avenue, at which time he brandished the weapon (observed to be a drywall saw affixed to a table leg) in a threatening manner.

The male refused repeated demands to drop the weapon. A conducted energy weapon (“Taser”) was deployed and he was safely taken into custody.

Fletcher Kenneth Beach, a 34-year-old male of Winnipeg, has been charged with:

- Possession of a Weapon
- Resist Peace Officer
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order (x2)

He was detained in custody.
