Firearms – Arrests: C22-79702
In April of 2022, the Winnipeg Police Service investigated a known drug trafficker conducting illegal activity within the City of Winnipeg.
Members of the Guns and Gangs Unit continued the investigation and obtained a search warrant for a residence in the 300 block of Manitoba Avenue.
On April 19, members of the Guns and Gangs Unit, with the assistance of the Tactical Support Unit, executed the search warrant and arrested two males within the residence.
The following items were located and seized within the residence:
- 9 mm handgun with various ammunition
- 40 grams of Crack Cocaine (estimated street value of $4000)
- Packaging material and drug paraphernalia
William SINCLAIR, 27, of Winnipeg, is charged with the following offences:
- Warrant of Arrest (Unlawfully at Large)
- Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking
- Possession of Proceeds Obtained by Crime under $5000
- Various Firearms related offences
- Fail to Comply with Prohibition Order x 2
Calvin WADITAKA, 24, of Winnipeg, is charged with the following offences:
- Warrant of Arrest x 3
- Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking
- Possession of Proceeds Obtained by Crime under $5000
- Various Firearms related offences
SINCLAIR and WADITAKA were detained in custody.
Firearms – Arrest: C22-81171
On April 20, 2022, at approximately 9:00 p.m., Garden City mall security requested that an individual exit the mall as they were closing. During this exchange, the suspect exposed a rifle concealed in his waistband. He subsequently fled the mall, and security contacted police.
Officers in the North District, with the assistance of Air1, quickly located the suspect in the parking lot, and he was taken into custody.
Evan Daniel ABRAHAM, 27, of Winnipeg, was charged with:
- Possession of a Weapon
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
- Carrrying a Concealed Weapon
He was detained in custody.
Robbery – Arrest: C22-81250
On April 20, 2022, at approximately 11:00 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a report of a person who was robbed at knifepoint in the area of the Millennium Library.
A victim in his 30s immediately ran to the safety of the Winnipeg Police Service Headquarters, where he reported the robbery and the theft of his cellular phone. The victim suffered no injuries as a result of the robbery.
Shortly thereafter, Central District officers located and arrested a male suspect at the intersection of Edmonton Street and Graham Avenue. Officers discovered and seized the knife used during the robbery upon searching the suspect.
A 28-year-old man from Winnipeg is facing the following charges:
- Robbery
- Possession of a Weapon
He was released on an Appearance Notice.
Homicide – Investigation: C22- 80520
Update:
Yesterday, the Winnipeg Police Service issued a release regarding a suspicious death. A deceased male was located within a residential fire in the 600 block of Flora Avenue.
The deceased has now been identified as Steven Andrew MINGO, a 30-year-old male of Winnipeg.
His death is determined to be a homicide.
