The 2016-2018 Accessibility Plan is the culmination of the effort and dedication of City Council and Public Service leaders, all Departments within the City of Winnipeg, and consultation with our community stakeholders. The Plan aligns with the requirements of the Accessibility for Manitobans Act and represents the City’s commitment to ensuring inclusive access and participation for all people who live, work or visit our city, regardless of their abilities. Beginning December 2013, the Province of Manitoba enacted the Accessibility for Manitobans Act which mandates the City to formalize and publically post our ongoing plan for barrier identification, prevention and removal.

The City will report on each area stated in the Accessibility for Manitobans Act: employment, customer service, transportation, the built environment, information, and communication.

The City will perform a cross-departmental scan to identify current policies, practices, procedures and projects that show the commitment to identifying, preventing and removing barriers for citizens and visitors to Winnipeg who may be affected by barriers.
Additionally, the public will have an opportunity to provide feedback through completing a survey. For those who prefer to participate in a face to face discussion, we will also hold a fall workshop (time and place yet to be determined). Please ensure your voice is heard.

This information will be used to establish a baseline Accessibility Plan. The intent is to establish the City’s starting status at the end of 2016. The plan will be reviewed and updated every two years and the results will be publically posted.
