Universal Design

Universal Design is the practice of designing environments, information, communications and transportation that can be efficiently used by people with a wide range of abilities operating in a wide range of situations. It is about putting people first, providing the same opportunity for accessing services, landscapes, buildings and information to young and old, with or without disabilities regardless of life circumstances to the greatest extent possible.

2021 - 2022 Accessibility Plan

The 2021 - 2022 Accessibility Plan communicates the City's commitment to ensuring inclusive access and participation for all people who live, work or visit our city, regardless of their abilities. A requirement under the Accessibility for Manitobans Act, which must be updated every two years, the Accessibility Plan also defines a plan of action to continue to address accessibility barriers in policies, practices and procedures. The Accessibility Design Standards
The City of Winnipeg Accessibility Design Standards for the built environment is a set of requirements under the Universal Design Policy and are applied to City-owned, occupied, funded or leased buildings and exterior environments. These standards do not negate the regulatory requirements of the Manitoba Building Code.
