Hazard Reporting

Is the Hazard on/off the road or is it weather-related?

Waze should be used to report as much accurate information as possible. Hazards are broken down into the following subcategories:

Fog, Hail

fog

Let’s tackle the weather first. Waze is a global app so some of the weather reports are somewhat rare. Use where appropriate.

hail hail

Ice on Road

Reporting ice on the road in Winnipeg can be futile – it's everywhere! Save these reports for areas where black ice may catch drivers unaware. The same rule applies to snow.

Flood

It's advisable to use the flood icon when one or more lanes become partially blocked or the water hazard is big enough to cause drivers to take action to avoid it.

Vehicle stopped

Few City roads have shoulders; however, this is still a good alert to use if there is a vehicle in the median lane or off the road in the grass/verge. Not to be used for the curb lane.

Animals

Use this hazard report for a live animal that poses a danger to itself and traffic.

Missing sign

The missing sign hazard can be used for a missing stop sign, yield sign, or even a traffic signal IF they are completely clear of the roadway. Remember there is a hazard on road report if it's affecting traffic.

Object on road

Object on road can cover anything from debris to a sign. There is no specific list for this icon so use it to alert other drivers of something that is not normally there.

Construction Construction icon

Construction

The TMC posts regional lane closures on Waze. However, side street closures and closures operating outside of their permits might not be posted. Help us track them down by posting construction!

Broken traffic light

A broken light could mean damage or a signal which is not working.  Either way, report using this icon and we will investigate and you will keep drivers safer!

Pothole

Report potholes that cause vehicles to deviate out of their lane or pose a danger. This way, drivers get a heads-up and the TMC can submit a report for the pothole to be inspected by Streets Maintenance.

Vehicle stopped on road

A true life saver! Use the vehicle stopped on road to alert others. Sometimes stalls are not obvious or easy to spot. Alerting drivers in advance makes for a safer environment!

Roadkill

Roadkill can be distressing and dangerous as drivers may swerve to avoid it. Using the roadkill icon gives everyone the heads-up!
