Book of Condolence
A book of condolence has been set up on main floor of the Council Building at 510 Main Street during the period of mourning. Anyone is welcome to sign the book during City Hall operating hours, weekdays 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. until end of day September 19.
Period of Mourning
The City of Winnipeg is following official protocol related to the 10-day period of mourning, which began September 9, 2022.
The lights on Esplanade Riel will be illuminated a royal blue hue during this time. A lighting effect will also take place for ten minutes at the top of the hour from dusk until midnight. Following direction from the Government of Canada, this colour was selected to echo the blue jewels worn by Her Majesty in her last official Canadian portrait and will pay tribute to her over seven decades of service as Queen of Canada.
Flags have also been lowered at all City buildings and facilities (where possible) until the day of her funeral.
As part of the formal mourning process, a black ribbon has been added to the portrait of the Queen and the flags hanging with it in the City Council Chambers.
All City operations will continue as regularly scheduled on Monday, September 19.
