News Releases

April 24, 2019 - You Too? Resource Cards

Recognizing that many people have experienced sexual violence and may not know what local services are available to help, in partnership with the Winnipeg Committee for Safety, the Winnipeg Safe City Initiative is releasing You Too? resource cards. The front of these 3.5 x 2 inch cards ask You Too? in acknowledgement of the global MeToo movement that has highlighted the prevalence of sexual harassment and sexual assault. The backs of the cards include contact information for crisis and non-crisis services available in Winnipeg, MB.

“All Winnipeggers deserve to feel safe and welcome in our community,” said Mayor Brian Bowman. “Creating awareness about the many resources that are available is a way we can assist in moving forward. With these resources available, survivors of sexual violence can choose if, when and who they reach out to for help.”

“Whether a survivor chooses to access Indigenous-led services like Heart Medicine Lodge (Ka Ni Kanichihk) or trauma-informed resources like Klinic Community Health Centre, we want survivors to know that appropriate supports are here to assist them” - Councillor Cindy Gilroy, Winnipeg Safe City Initiative Co-Chair.

Pdfs of these cards and the poster version are available for download below. Hard copies are currently available, upon request. Please contact or for more information.

November 25, 2018 - International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.

The 16 Days of Activism runs from November 25th to December 10th. This international campaign rallies activists, government leaders, students, academia and the private sector in many countries around the world to demand an end to gender-based violence.

The campaign begins on November 25, which is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. It ends on December 10, which is Human Rights Day

To commemorate the 16 Days of Activism, Manitoba Status of Women, in partnership with the Winnipeg Safe City initiative, is releasing two posters to raise awareness of consent and victim blaming.

Manitobans can follow the international conversation with the hashtag #HearMeToo.
