Economic development

A strong economy and favourable business environment requires intergovernmental cooperation, as well as collaboration with other levels of government and community partners. As a result, the City of Winnipeg is pleased to partner with local businesses, learning institutions and various economic development agencies.

The City has established the following partnerships and economic development resources to support creation of complete communities where people can live, work, learn, play and visit – while also promoting business growth by supporting expansion and retention of existing business and attraction of new business.

Housing Accelerator Fund

This program includes targeted initiatives aimed at speeding up the rate of residential development and increasing the housing supply in Winnipeg. Photo credit: Tourism Winnipeg.

Heritage & Economic Development Incentive Program

This program provides tax increment financing grants for development projects that align with OurWinnipeg 2045 and support the City’s COVID-19 Economic Response and Recovery Plan.

Affordable Housing NOW

This program provides approved projects with support through two funding streams: Tax Increment Financing (TIF) Grants and Capital Grants.
