Construction code enforcement
The following codes are currently enforced in Winnipeg for construction projects.
Construction codes:
The 2020 editions of the national model building, energy, plumbing and fire codes came into force in Manitoba on January 1, 2024. These codes are enforced in Winnipeg through the Winnipeg Building By-Law 4555/87 and the Fire Prevention By-Law 35/2017. Manitoba's construction codes have been adopted with Manitoba-specific amendments by provincial regulation:
- Manitoba Building Code Regulation 78/2023
- design and construction of new buildings and the alteration, change of use and demolition of existing buildings
- The City refers to this as the 2024 Manitoba Building Code.
- Manitoba Energy Code for Buildings Regulation 79/2023
- energy efficiency in the design and construction of new buildings and additions to existing buildings
- The City refers to this as the 2024 Manitoba Energy Code for Buildings.
- Manitoba Plumbing Code Regulation 80/2023
- design and installation of new plumbing systems and the extension, alteration, renewal and repair of existing plumbing systems
- Manitoba Fire Code Regulation 82/2023
- enforced by the Fire Prevention Branch

Electrical code:
The 2021 edition of the Canadian Electrical Code came into force with Winnipeg-specific amendments on July 1, 2022 through the Winnipeg Electrical By-law 72/2022:
- safety standards for the installation and maintenance of electrical equipment with consideration to the prevention of fire and shock hazards, as well as proper maintenance and operation
- The City refers to this as the Winnipeg Electrical By-law.
