Background
St. Mary's Road (PTH200) is an important truck and commuter route.
This year, we will renew two sections of the street between the Perimeter Highway and Chrypko Drive.
The goal of this work is to fix the road, improve safety and improve drainage. We will remove the existing asphalt and recycling the existing concrete in place. We will construct a new asphalt surface on top of the old road.

Frequently Asked Questions
We will recycle the existing road in-place and build a new road on top. This construction is innovative, goes quickly and provides a new road. The new road will have paved shoulders on both sides and will be very smooth for a long time.
The total budget is $8.855 million.
No. We will reconstruction the existing 2-metre paved shoulders on both sides of the road.
We will close northbound St. Mary's Road for approximately two months this summer. We will maintain two-way traffic through the remainder of construction. We will reduce the posted speed limit to 50 km/h.
The existing road is one lane in each direction. There is not enough space to maintain 2-way direction while renewing one lane at a time.
Construction will start at the beginning of June 2026 and be completed in the fall.
Yes. We will install new culverts to improve drainage and regrade all of the ditches.
The floodway bridge work is separate project through Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure. Our work will take advantage of the reduced traffic from the floodway bridge closure to undertake this work.
BellMTS will relocate a section of their timber pole line on the west side of the road, so the poles will not be at the bottom of the improved ditch.
We are doing this for several reasons;
- To allow traffic to flow freely during the day
- To allow two lanes to be paved at one time, which will make the road last longer
- The trucks that deliver the asphalt will be able to bring the asphalt to the construction site faster as traffic on the perimeter will be a lot lighter.
