St. Mary's Road is an important truck, Transit, and commuter route. We will renew the road in 2026.

Background

St. Mary's Road is an important truck, Transit, and commuter route. We will renew the road in 2026.

The goal of this work is to fix the road and improve safety. We will:

  • Improve the roadway from northbound St. Mary's Road from Abinojii Mikanah to Fermor Avenue and southbound St. Mary's Road from Fermor Avenue to Arden Avenue
  • We will:
    • Remove the existing asphalt and repair the concrete road pavement
    • Repair curbs and sidewalks where required
    • Construct a new layer of asphalt
    • Upgrade pedestrian crossings at Havelock Av/Molgat Av and Lennox Av/Bronstone BV

What are you doing to the road?

We are doing construction to make the road smoother, help it drain better, and extend the life of the pavement. We will remove the existing roadway surface, repair the pavement, and replace the asphalt surface. We will also repair curbs and sidewalks where required.

How has this project considered safety?

At Havelock Ave./Molgat Ave. Crossing:

  • We will add detectable warning tiles to the existing push button pedestrian crossing with flashing lights

At Lennox Ave./Bronstone Blvd. Crossing:

  • We will add detectable warning tiles and realign the existing push button pedestrian crossing with flashing lights
What is the budget for this project?

The total budget is $6.351 million. It is part of our annual Capital street renewal program of the City of Winnipeg's Capital Budget.

When will construction occur?

Construction is scheduled for the spring of 2026 and be completed in the fall of 2026.

How will construction impact Transit and what changes will be made to Transit?

We will provide temporary transit stops within the construction area during construction.

How will construction impact traffic?

We will maintain one lane of traffic in each direction throughout construction.
