Record searches & data requests

According to The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, property owners or an authorized agent, are entitled to the records and account histories of their properties that the City of Winnipeg possesses, for a fee.

The City of Winnipeg provides the following record searches:
  • Cross-connection and backflow prevention search
  • Cross-connection and backflow prevention search with inspection
  • Sewer By-law compliance search
  • Monitoring results
To request a search, you must provide:
  • The completed Record Search Request form
  • Written authorization or completed Consent & Authorization form from the property owner
  • The applicable fee
What information is provided with the search and what is the cost?

  • Identify potential cross connection and backflow situations
  • Inspect installation and operation of cross connection and backflow control devices
  • Issue a work order to the owner to correct any cross connection or backflow conditions
  • Follow up to ensure any deficiencies are corrected
  • Notification of compliance with Sections 34 to 36 of the Water By-Law

    • Outstanding work orders under the Water By-law
    • Records of inspection of premise
    • Confirmation of annual testing of backflow devices
  • Notification of compliance with Sections 34 to 36 of the Water By-Law

Sewer by-law compliance record search
  • Search our files and database for:
    • Any contraventions of the Sewer-By-Law (current and past versions)
    • Outstanding compliance orders under Sewer By-Law
    • Records of spills contained in non-archived records maintained by the Department

Wastewater monitoring-analytical results
  • Search our files and databases for analytical data that has been collected in accordance with the Industrial Waste Services Branch monitoring programs
  • Fee covers one parameter for a period of up to one year

Hauled wastewater data
  • Search of our files and databases for records of hauled wastewater received at the NEWPCC Hauled Liquid Waste Receiving Facility
