Vision

Excellence in environmental services

Mission

Serving the community by providing and continually improving drinking water, wastewater, land drainage, and solid waste services to the citizens of Winnipeg

Mandate

We are a large civic department consisting of three distinct "utilities" - water, wastewater and solid waste disposal. We also provide tax-supported services for land drainage, flood control and solid waste collection.

Our activities contribute to the quality of life enjoyed by the citizens of Winnipeg by:

  • providing drinking water
  • collecting and treating wastewater
  • managing land drainage and flood control
  • providing collection, disposal and waste minimization programs and facilities for solid waste

Our legal mandate:

City Council has final authority to set water and sewer rates and approve by-law amendments which incorporate changes to existing rates for department services.

We report administratively to the Chief Administrative Officer, and politically to the Standing Policy Committee on Water and Waste, Riverbank Management and the Environment.
