Reports on untreated sewage

As requested by the Province of Manitoba, we report on the incidents of untreated sewer release into the environment as a result of a disruption to our wastewater collection system. These events are usually the result of something unanticipated like a water main break or a power outage. When sewer operations are disrupted, the sewage can be released into the environment, which helps protect public health and prevent property damage like basement flooding.

  • Maintenance inspections revealed discharge occurring from sewer outfall.
  • Crews discovered blockage and removed debris that was causing an overflow to the Olive land drainage sewer via a high level overflow.
  • Sewer levels in the area normalized and discharge ended.
  • Incident reported to Manitoba Water Stewardship and Environment Canada.
December 10 Red River -
Cockburn sewage pumping station		 2000 litres 10 minutes Manitoba Hydro power outage
  • Alarm received at 5:20 p.m.
  • Small discharge occurred around 6:00 p.m. while staff were closing the gate.
  • Power restored around 8:10 p.m.
  • Incident reported to Manitoba Water Stewardship and Environment Canada.
November 27 Assiniboine River -
Ferry Road lift station		 54,000 litres 15 minutes Power disruption
  • Power disruption occurred at 9:45 a.m.
  • Alarm indicators and pump controls reactivated when power restored around 10 a.m.
  • Incident reported to Manitoba Water Stewardship and Environment Canada.
