Winnipeg Police Board

The Winnipeg Police Board (the Board) is the civilian governance body for the Winnipeg Police Service (the Service). The Board provides general supervision and oversight in these areas:

  • Setting priorities and objectives for the Service;
  • Setting policies for the effective management of the Service;
  • Appointing the police chief;
  • Directing the police chief and monitoring their performance;
  • Ensuring that policing reflect community needs, values and expectations; and
  • Being the liaison between the community and the Service;

Strategic Plan 2026 - 2030

The Board establishes a multi-year strategic plan that guides the priorities, strategies, and programs of the Service.

Grounded in the vision Partners in Community Safety, the 2026-2030 strategic plan sets out a mission that reflects the aspirations of both the police service and the community it serves – Serving Winnipeg through excellence in policing, trusted partnerships and a healthy organization.

The plan sets four priorities to guide the Winnipeg Police Service from 2026 to 2030:

  • Protect the Safety and Security of Our Community
    Strengthen core policing, address crime and disorder, and support a safer city.
  • Build Community, Relationships, and Advance Reconciliation
    Deepen trust, expand partnerships, and take meaningful steps toward Reconciliation while supporting all communities.
  • Deliver Responsive and Effective Service
    Use data, technology, and community insight to provide timely and adaptable services.
  • Provide a Healthy and Accountable Workplace
    Support member wellness, reinforce professionalism, and strengthen public accountability.
