How we help dogs and cats
Because Winnipeggers own so many dogs and cats, the City of Winnipeg has significant funded services in place to help. These services are primarily funded by pet licence revenues and include the following.
Animal Services Agency
- Facility for stray dogs
- Full service Animal Control
- 24/7 emergency response to Police and Fire incidents involving animals
- 24/7 311 support to help reunite lost licensed pets
- A progressive adoption program to give unclaimed pets a second chance
- Volunteer, Doggie Date, and educational outreach programs
- Acceptance of unwanted dogs from northern communities to place for adoption
Winnipeg Humane Society
(through a funded City of Winnipeg contract)
- Facility for stray cats
- Advanced veterinary care for injured stray animals
- Low income spay/neuter programming
