Fire Prevention
The Winnipeg Fire Department offers a variety of fire safety
inspection services and information for the general public. Our website offers an overview of the different types
and frequencies of fire safety inspections conducted in buildings.
It also provides an overview of permit requirements for fireworks & open air burning, fees for inspection and
permit services, as well as miscellaneous guidelines and other
regulatory information.

Permits
Open air burning permits, fireworks and pyrotechnic display, and fireworks distribution
and storage permits
Smoke alarms
In the event of a fire, Properly installed and maintained smoke alarms will provide an
early warning alarm to your household
Inspections
Fire safety inspections of certain occupancies are required at a predetermined
frequency
Fireworks
No person may ignite, fire or set off any fireworks without a Fireworks Display Permit
issued by the Fire Department
Fire bans
To protect residents and properties from fire, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service may
issue an open-air fire ban, which bans all outdoor fires under the Neighbourhood Liveability By-Law.
Fire extinguisher training
The WFPS Fire Extinguisher Trainer's Seminar is designed to provide prospective fire
extinguisher instructors with a core course curriculum.
