Brady Road Resource Management Facility Proposed Development

Biosolids Pilot began in Spring 2015 and the Biosolids Master Plan was submitted to the Province of Manitoba for review

Brady Road 4R Winnipeg Depot
Construction continues on the Brady Road 4R Winnipeg Depot, with anticipated completion in late 2015. Work also continues on agreements with the Producer Responsibility Organizations for materials that can be accepted at the depot (e.g., household hazardous waste) and operational requirements (e.g., equipment, staffing, training, traffic flow, technology).
Licensing process
On April 23, 2014, the Province of Manitoba issued a licence to the City of Winnipeg Water and Waste Department for the operation of the Brady Road Resource Management Facility.

Future Plans
New Facility for Processing Recyclables
A new, larger facility will be built to process all the materials, more than 50,000 tonnes per year and growing, from blue recycling carts.
Green Business Park
Land is being reserved for a future green business park, which would host companies/groups that reclaim and reuse materials that would otherwise be buried in the landfill.

Community Liaison Committee
As part of the requirements for the new Environmental Licence issued by the Province for our Brady Road Resource Management Facility, we are establishing a Community Liaison Committee.
Committee members will provide advice on:
- a plan for landscaping finished areas of the landfill,
- a plan for monitoring noise and odour, and
- ways to reduce the impact of landfill activities (e.g., construction, operations) on the local environment.

Lime Mud Berm Construction
Update
Preliminary work for phase 1 of the lime mud berm construction is expected to begin the week of Monday, November 10, 2014.
The preliminary work includes:
- developing a new access road at Brady Road Resource Management Facility, along Waverley Street and Trappistes Street
- stripping of top soil
Crews tipping lime mud material at the berm site
The City of Winnipeg will provide more information as it becomes available, including traffic management and dust control.
About the Lime Mud Berm Construction
On September 24, 2014, Winnipeg City Council approved the plan to construct lime mud berms at Brady Road Resource Management Facility.
Approximately 500,000 cubic metres of lime mud, the remaining material from the sugar refining process, will be transported from the former Sugar Beets plant site, located northwest of Pembina Highway and Bishop Grandin Blvd. to Brady and used to construct berms.
The berms will:
- be 6 metres high
- be built at the perimeter of Brady
- act as an odour, noise and visual buffer
Phase 1 berms, along Waverley Street, will be constructed in 2014. Proposed phase 2 berms are planned to be constructed in 2015.
