When Should I Call 911?

What do I do if my fire hydrant is covered in snow?

Who do I call if a fire hydrant is leaking?

This is classified as a non-emergency call. Please contact the Water Works Department.

Who do I notify if a water main is leaking?

This is classified as a non-emergency call. Please contact the Water Works Department.

Do you rescue cats in trees?

WFPS consider animal rescue needs on a case by case basis. For example, an animal in the river with people attempting to rescue it creates a significant safety concern as the situation can be very dangerous. A cat in the tree is not the same type of rescue situation, and therefore will not attend.

Can the fire department come out to remove a dead animal on the road?

Emergency Services will attend to any animals on the roadway or boulevard owned by the City. If it is on private property, they will not attend.

Branches are touching the hydro/phone/cable lines coming into my house?

Please contact the appropriate utility.

The streets are not plowed in my area; will you still come out in an emergency?

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service will attend in any emergency, even if the streets are not plowed.

I am locked out of my vehicle; can you send someone to help me?

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service does not attend unless a child is locked in unattended or perhaps a person is unresponsive in the vehicle. If there is no medical emergency, please call a locksmith.

I am locked out of my residence, can you send someone to assist me back in?

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service does not attend unless a child is locked in the house unattended or perhaps if a pot of food was left on the stove. If there is no medical or fire emergency, please call a locksmith.

Where do I purchase a smoke detector/C0 detector or Fire extinguisher?

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service recommends the purchase of each of the above. Please refer to the phone book under fire extinguishers. It is important that the devices carry a ULC label.

Where can I get information on replacing my ERIK kit now that I have moved?

E.R.I.K kits are available at any Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Stations and various seniors groups

I have a raccoon in my chimney/attic/fireplace can you send someone out?

No. Please contact the Provincial Conservation Office

There is a car parked illegally in a 24 hour fire emergency access area.

Contact Winnipeg Police Service or check the no parking sign for who may have a towing contract assigned.

There is wood piled up or a derelict yard that is a fire hazard can you please check on this?
