City employees giving back to the community they serve

Over $440k raised in 2018 to support local charities making a difference

July 4, 2019

Every year countless Winnipeggers turn to charitable organizations for a helping hand. Through the City of Winnipeg Charitable Fund (CWCF), civic employees are able to give back to the community they serve.

In 2018, employees and retirees raised $442,650 for various charities making a difference in Winnipeg.

The CWCF gives employees the option to select a registered charity of their choice to make a regular donation deducted directly off their payroll. More than 250 charities are supported this way.

Employees can also choose to pledge to the CWCF. That donation is then divided equally between the United Way and the Winnipeg Foundation. They can choose as much or as little of a donation as they feel comfortable with.  There is no requirement to donate and all donations are tax-deductible.

The 2019-2020 campaign kicked off in June with the annual Fire Engine Pull. Each department put together a team, with costumes highly encouraged, and competed to see who could pull the truck the quickest. The event was held over employees’ lunch hour with the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service winning with the fastest time.
