Government Finance Officers Association's award is based on meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting

For the second year in a row, the City of Winnipeg budget has received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association.
A panel of independent reviewers assessed each entry. In order to receive the budget award, the City had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation.
This award was given to the City’s Finance Department for the 2019 budget.
“The award reflects the tremendous collective effort of Corporate Finance, all departments and SOAs, and our elected officials, in producing high quality budget documents for use by our residents and community,” said Paul Olafson, Interim Chief Financial Officer.
The guidelines were assessed on how well the budget serves as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide as well as a communication device. The City’s submission had to receive a proficient rating in all four categories and in the fourteen mandatory criteria within those categories.
Based in Chicago, Illinois, the Government Finance Officers Association represents public finance officials throughout Canada and the United States. It has more than 20,500 members from all levels of government.
