If you are looking to venture on to The Winnipeg Foundation Centennial River Trail, you now have two new options to safely make it down the riverbank.

The City of Winnipeg has built two new portable access ramps that measure just over 30 metres long and more than a metre wide.

One was installed on the northeast side of the Norwood Bridge near The Forks, and connects to the Red River portion of the River Trail.  The other connects to the Assiniboine River from the Hugo Street dock near Wellington Crescent.

The ramp near the Norwood Bridge was installed in early February.

“It is wonderful to see how many Winnipeg residents are embracing outdoor activities during the winter,” said Christopher Baker, Senior Active Transportation Planner.

Baker added that the City is considering additional access points to the River Trail as timing and conditions allow.

“We are always looking for opportunities to enhance the connectivity of our active transportation network, including the seasonal opportunity that is the frozen rivers along with existing winter trails around Winnipeg,” he said.

Residents are reminded to following all Public Health Orders and COVID-19 precautions. Before venturing to one of the sites, it is also important to check the conditions of The Winnipeg Foundation Centennial River Trail on The Forks’ website.
