More than 1,000 Winnipeg parks for you to explore
Regardless of the season, there is something for everyone at our parks
July 16, 2021
Getting outside and being active is great for your physical and mental health. We have plenty of parks to explore in all seasons.
With over 3,500 hectares of parkland in Winnipeg, there is no shortage of parks spaces, new experiences, and plentiful amenities to enjoy.
“Our dedicated frontline employees have been working diligently to ensure that our parks and open spaces are meticulously maintained, esthetically pleasing, and ready for visits from residents and visitors, of all ages and abilities, throughout the year,” said Dave Domke, Manager of Parks and Open Space.
Our parks are open year-round and there is something for everyone.
During the summer, you can skateboard, play disc golf, lawn bowling, tennis, or use our athletic fields. If you are looking for a water, launch your boat, canoe, or kayak at one of our six boat docks and canoe launches.
Wonderful walking and hiking trails also abound year-round at great locations like Assiniboine Forest, Churchill Drive, Little Mountain Park, St. Vital Park, and along the Seine River. There are also over 150 species of prairie plants and a great array of prairie wildlife can be found at the Living Prairie Museum, a rare tall grass prairie nature preserve. There are so many natural areas to enjoy and appreciate in Winnipeg.
And don’t forget to check out any one of our almost 20 off-leash dog parks if you have a canine companion.
“Our employees work collaboratively, proactively, and positively with a wide variety of parks stakeholders and community partners throughout the year to make sure our parks are there for our visitors, as we work to achieve excellence in all of our park services,” said Domke.
While you are encouraged to embrace the outdoors, make sure to do it safely and responsibly while following provincial public health orders.
