Safe Space stickers helping create a more inclusive and welcoming workplace for 2SLGBTQ+ employees

City HR Pride as safe spaces workplace

We are working to create a more inclusive workplace for 2SLGBTQ+ employees.  Beginning in June 2021, City of Winnipeg Safe Space stickers are appearing in our workplaces.

The circular stickers, which include the colours of the Pride and Transgender flags, as well as black and brown to represent BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Colour), are a way for employees to show that their workspace is an inclusive and welcoming place for co-workers of all gender expressions, gender identities, and sexual orientations.

In addition to identifying safe spaces for members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community, we are also working in partnership with the 2SLGBTQ+ community, to enhance policies, systems, and programs to create a truly inclusive and engaging work environment.

“Organizations need to look at making sure their workplace harassment, parental leave, bereavement leave, and other policies are inclusive of gender expression, gender identity, and sexual orientation,” said Jade Pichette, Manager of Programs at Pride at Work Canada. “Creating a sense of belonging for others is an ongoing process where we need to commit every day to create more inclusive spaces.”

Pichette suggests adding your pronouns to your email signature and video calls, and if you’re comfortable, putting a pride flag in your background to show your support if you’re working remotely to help create a safer virtual space.
