Employees encouraged to take internal Pronouns and Gender Inclusive Language course
May 27, 2022
We are focused on creating an inclusive and welcoming work environment at the City of Winnipeg. This is why we have been proud to offer the internal Pronouns and Gender Inclusive Language: The Importance of Getting it Right course to employees since the fall of 2021.
The course provides a great overview of the importance of using gender-inclusive language and looks at how misgendering, or using the wrong pronouns, can feel and shares best practices for avoiding misgendering going forward. All employees are encouraged to participate in the training opportunity. As of May 2022, nearly 500 have taken the voluntary course.
The training is being offered online through our Employee Development Branch and takes around 30 minutes to complete. Employees can take the course at their own pace and they will receive credit in their formal training summary once completed.
Following completion of the course, we encourage employees who are comfortable to add their pronouns to their email signatures and business cards, and to share their pronouns when they introduce themselves at meetings. Sharing your pronouns with others can help create a welcoming and inclusive environment.
